Lax (also known as Snor in some official translations) (ゴン; Gon) is one of Red's main Pokémon.

Lax's first appears in VS Snorlax where he blocking Route 12 during a cycling race Red is a competitor in. Because of the Pokémon's high HP, though, all attacks prove useless against it. When Red thinks to use a honey-covered Saur as bait, however, Lax quickly wakes up and chases the two all the way to the race goal. Later, Red ends up spending all his prize money on food for Lax.
Later, Lax assists Red in stopping Blue from escaping, using its massive size and strength to create a wall of sorts. Red again uses Lax as a wall against two Magmar, though the strategy proves ineffective. However, Lax proves much more useful in Red's battle with a Dragonite, using the ability Strength to match the Dragon Pokémon in strength. When Gyara joins their team, like Red's other Pokémon, Lax is hesitant towards accepting Gyara, despite no previous experiences with the Gyarados. After seeing Vee's willingness to help, though, Lax accepts Gyara as their new team member.
Accompanying Red to investigate Cerulean Cave for the Cerulean Monster, Lax ends up getting sucked up into a tornado along with Red. It's Lax's weight that ultimately causes Aero to be unable to fly the group out of the tornado. The second time they challenge the Cerulean Monster, which ends up being Mewtwo, Lax again gets blown away, but it aids Red in capturing Mewtwo.
